BACKGROUND

Iceland is one of the most depressed countries in Europe, while Hawaii is ranked as the least depressed region in the U.S. (Source: Euronews, CNN). Why the contrast? The climates of Hawaii and Iceland are polar opposites. Midea, the world's largest air conditioner manufacturer, believes that changing the climate can improve mental health.

IDEA

In December 2023, we built an enclosed tropical beach structure near Reykjavik, Iceland's capital, simulating an authentic Hawaiian lifestyle. Using Midea's latest air conditioners, we recreated Hawaii’s climate indoors, adjusting temperatures up to 30°C even when it’s -25°C outside. The temperature, humidity, and negative ion levels were all customized to mimic Hawaii, providing a unique and immersive experience.
